Clinging to the sides of the steep hills above Tuzla lies the forest of Ilincica. It's a magical, mystical place where the Bosnians come for picnics at the weekends. During the week there is seldom anyone there. I would take the boys and the dog and walk up there almost every day. We would spend hours throwing sticks down the hill for the dog to chase and scrambling across the cliff face with me thinking 'what am I doing?'. I find now, back in Britain, I'm missing Ilincica's steep, unmanaged slopes and the ridiculous adventures we would have trying to climb them, but many Bosnians couldn't believe we went up there so often, they thought it was a dangerous place. So, in response to this weeks prompt Tara's Gallery , a photo that reminds you of a book, I give you our Bosnian version of The Lord of the Rings. If you look carefully you might find a hobbit hiding and the threat of the Nazgul menace, but mainly it was just beautiful.
Beautiful and evocative - you really have done justice to the book! (and yes, that does look like a Hobbit in the foreground)
ReplyDeleteAh lovely....a perfect spot...x
ReplyDeleteDo you think The Kite Runner is worth a re-read then? Is it as wonderful second time around? I'm always 'so' torn about rereads...hmmm
Perfect photo for that book:) Jen
ReplyDeleteOh, that is so Lord of the Rings territory. I bet Peter Jackson wishes he'd found Bosnia before NZ!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely 'suggestivo' photo!!! Kathryn
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful picture to evoke a wonderful series of books.

ReplyDeleteLovely. A few of us have gone with trees this week. There is something magical about them.
ReplyDeleteNice post and beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteLovely and ever so slightly creepy. You never know what's lurking behind those trees. I'm definitely a city girl myself.
ReplyDeleteTantalisng glimpses of the view beyond the trees.
ReplyDeletewow... wonderful photo - I could do with being there now! As much as I'm glad to be 'home' I do so long for the steep mountains and the forests that we used to go wandering through in Portugal.
ReplyDeleteI haven't stopped by for an age! apologies but the boat connection doesn't allow for much blog-reading, but good to catch up with all your news. Hope you are well! x
Wasn't a part of Narnia being filmed in Bosnia? Beautiful!!
